How to Look Good in Jeans at Any Size

One of the reasons why denim jeans are so popular is because anyone can look good in the right pair of jeans. The trick is finding the type of jeans that will flatter your particular body shape and size. You don't have to be a size 0 to look good in a pair of jeans, you just need to know how to shop. Here are some tips to help you find jeans that look great no matter what size you are:

Don't pay any attention to the size tag

Sizes are not standard and vary wildly from company to company. Use your general size as a guide and try on a few pairs of jeans smaller than your normal size and a few pairs larger than your normal size. It's not the number on the tag that matters, it's how they fit.

Try on at least ten pairs

For people who hate shopping for jeans trying on more than a couple of pairs can sound like a nightmare, but it's the only way to be sure you're getting the right fit. Try on ten pairs in different sizes and fits to see which really looks best on you. It can be nerve wracking to try on that many pairs but it will be worth it when you find the pair that makes you look great.

When in doubt, choose medium

Medium rise, medium width jeans with a slight touch of flare at the bottom are universally flattering. If you aren't sure whether or not the latest trendy jeans are going to flatter your figure or not choose medium rise jeans with a dark rinse and a straight or bootcut leg. You can't go wrong with that style of jeans no matter what your size.

Rinse matters

Lighter rinses will make you look bigger and can make your hips look wider. Two-tone rinses can make your legs look thicker. Choose a rinse that helps to create the illusion you want to create. Lighter rinses can create curves and visual interest where there isn't any. Darker rinses can hide fuller hips or a tummy and make your legs look long and lean. Once you find the right style of jeans to complement your body choose a rinse that will complete the overall look.

Find a tailor

Off the rack jeans are not proportioned for people who don't fit the standard sizing guide, so if you are taller than average or shorter than average or just don't fit standard sizes quite right you find a good tailor and have your jeans altered. A few small alternations can take a pair of jeans off the rack and turn them into custom fit creations that fit you perfectly and make your figure look amazing.
