Strike a Pose - Get the Perfect Picture of You in Your Prom Dress

So you have spent hours planning for your prom. You have trawled the internet and the shops looking at everything from ball gowns to cocktail dresses to find the perfect dress. You have had your hair and nails done and you have being going to dance lessons for the past three months to ensure you look good on the dance floor.

Your prom is likely to be one of the best nights of your life and you are likely to want to make a record of it with photos so that you can remember it for many years to come. Whether a professional photographer has been booked or you are taking your own photos it is important that you know how to pose to ensure you get the best photos possible. Below are some simple steps to follow to ensure you get the perfect pictures.

Hold your shoulders back and breathe in slightly, practice this in front of the mirror you will be amazed at the difference it can make.

Try to focus on your best features rather than the ones you dislike. If you have great eyes try to think about these whilst the shot is been taken rather than the features you dislike.

Rather than directly facing the camera always stand at an angle it is more flattering. Flick through any glossy magazine and you will notice that all of the celebrities stand at an angle when having their pictures taken on the red carpet.

To get the perfect silhouette bend your front knee slightly and kick out your hip a little on the other side.

If your hair is long try not to have it all hanging down in front of your face. Take one side back for a more pleasing line in your shoulders.

If possible get the photographer to stand on a step or a chair. Photographs taken from above with you looking up usually provide a more flattering picture.

To avoid greasy looking faces on your pictures make sure you powder your face.

Many people hate having their picture taken and if you are one of them try to think of nice thoughts whilst the photo is being taken. If you are happy you will look more relaxed and the picture will come out better.

Do not try to hard, you want the photo to look as natural as possible. If you do not normally pout then now is not the time to start. Be yourself you want the picture to look like you.

As with most things in life practice makes perfect. Get together with some friends a week or so before your prom and practice taking some shots. The beauty of modern day digital cameras is that you can take as many pictures as you want and discard the ones you do not like without it costing you anything.
